CPPIB to ramp up investments in emerging markets, India

The C$434.4 billion ($324 billion) Canada Pension Plan Investment Board is planning to invest up to a third of its funds in emerging markets by 2025, according to CNBC.

The pension fund will look at India as a major destination for investment.

In May, CPPIB halted its INR 1,400 crore ($184.7 million) investment activity in India, citing concerns caused by the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. The board paused its investment in logistics firm JM Baxi, a shipping services company in India.

“Our investments in India span different asset classes, including infrastructure, real estate, public and private equities, funds and co-investments, and credit,” Suyi Kim, head of Asia Pacific for CPPIB, told CNBC. “We see domestic consumption, technology and increasing demand for infrastructure to support the growth underpinning many of the themes and opportunities we
