The COVID-19 pandemic, and restrictions implemented to slow the spread of the disease, took a heavy toll on global investment in 2020, according to CBRE in its U.S. Inbound & Outbound Investment Trends. Foreign investment in the United States fell to a seven-year low of $28 billion, down by 31 percent from 2019. U.S. outbound capital fell by 29 percent to $41.6 billion. Worldwide, global cross-border capital flows fell by 19 percent to $217 billion.
