COVID-19 exposes opportunities and risks in communications infrastructure

The communication infrastructure sector has rooted itself in the investment universe over the past several years, propelled by technology that grows ever smarter.

In a video interview with IREI, Dylan Foo, senior partner and co-head of infrastructure at Apollo Global Management, explained the sector has advanced rapidly in the past three to five years, as more competitors enter the communications infrastructure space. Foo said it started with hard assets such as fiber, towers and data centers, but in recent years has shifted to more business-to-consumer type exposure, such as fiber-to-the-home and other services that have more tech risk. With the outbreak of COVID-19, Foo says, the essentiality of this sector has become impossible to ignore.
