Construction costs decrease for first time in a decade

by Released

Commercial construction costs dipped in the second quarter, declining for the first time in a decade, according to Turner Construction Co.’s quarterly Building Cost Index. The index measures costs in the U.S. nonresidential building construction market.

In second quarter 2020, the index level decreased to 1,177. This represents a –1.01 percent quarterly reduction from first quarter 2020.

This is the first time Turner’s projected quarterly Building Cost Index adjustment has fallen since second quarter 2010.
