Commerz Real buys German wind farm for repowering

by Kali Persall

German investment manager Commerz Real has purchased the Beckum wind farm from Energiekontor, a developer and operator of wind farms and solar plants domiciled in Bremen, Germany.

Beckum wind farm is located in the Munsterland region of Germany.

The project is known as repowering, or the renewal of a power plant. Originally six wind turbines with an installed capacity of 5.2 megawatts were located on the site near Beckum. These were dismantled in 2019 and will be replaced by two much more powerful wind turbines, each with an installed capacity of 4.5 megawatts. These will be connected to the national grid by the end of October.

“Repowering and the more efficient use of wind power locations will gain in importance in the future so as to meet climate targets,” explains Jan-Peter Muller, head of infrastructure investments at Commerz Real. “This will result in attractive investment opportunities for both us and our investors.”
