The Columbia Threadneedle European Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (ESIF) has acquired two renewable energy assets — a portfolio of mini hydropower plants in Italy, and Storrun Windkraft, a 2.5-megawatt onshore wind farm located in Sweden.
The wind farm and the mini hydroelectric plants have a combined electricity production capacity of 70 gigawatt hours per year.
“These assets represent a great opportunity for investors in the fund, allowing them to contribute to the energy transition away from fossil fuels initiated by Europe,” said Heiko Schupp, global head of infrastructure at Columbia Threadneedle Investments. “Hydroelectricity, for example, represents a third of all electricity from renewable sources in Europe, but this source of return is often neglected and is weakly correlated with the two traditional asset classes and the other types of renewable energies.
