Colombia’s Urban Development Institute (IDU) has launched pre-bidding documents for a bus rapid transit trunk line in the country’s capital, Bogota, according to InfraPPP.
Part of the TransMilenio system, the 17-kilometer-long (10.5-mile-long) line will run along Avenue 68 and cross through a number of neighborhoods. It will feature 21 stations with improved infrastructure than those currently existing in the system. In addition, 15 pedestrian bridges, seven vehicular bridges, four overpass vehicle crossings and three underground pedestrian crossings are slated to be built.
The line is expected to cut travel time in half for travelers and, for the first time, connect transit users to the city’s first metro line at the Avenida Primera de Mayo station. As part of the COP 3.2 billion ($950,000) project, 13.7 new kilometers (8.5 miles) of bike paths built and 4.3 kilometers (2.6 miles) of existing bike paths will be repaired.
