CIP and partners to develop world’s first energy island

by Kali Persall

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has joined with four major firms with marine and offshore construction services to develop the world's first energy island in the Danish North Sea.

The energy island will be located some 80–100 kilometers (50–62 miles) off the Danish west coast, which boasts optimal conditions for green energy production based on offshore wind. CIP said the four contractors involved are ACCIONA, Boskalis, DEME and MT Højgaard International, which are together called the NJORD Group.

CIP is acting as project developer on behalf of an investor consortium composed of PensionDanmark and PFA, two of Denmark's largest pension funds, and Denmark's largest utility company, Andel. The group is collectively known as the VindØ consortium.

“Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has thoroughly screened the most experienced experts and the world's best-suited contract partners for the Energy Island project,” said Thomas Dalsgaard, partner in CIP
