Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Greengate Power Corp. have broken ground on Travers Solar, the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) project ever constructed in Canada.
Located in Vulcan County, Alberta, Travers Solar has an expected capital cost of C$700 million ($566 million). The project will have an installed capacity of 465 megawatts ac, and it will produce enough clean energy to power more than 150,000 homes. Amazon has signed a corporate power-purchase agreement to offtake up to 400 megawatts ac from the project.
CIP said it will fund the construction and operation of the project via its Copenhagen Infrastructure IV, which closed at its €7 billion ($8.3 billion) hard cap in April. Greengate will continue to manage local stakeholder relations throughout its construction and operation.
