CIMIC Group company UGL wins $117m in rail contracts

CIMIC Group company UGL has been awarded A$180 million ($117m) in contracts for two projects in the rail sector.

As part of a consortium consisting of Transit Systems, UGL and John Holland, UGL won the contract to operate and maintain Adelaide’s North – South tram and bus network in South Australia over a period of eight years, beginning in July.

In addition, UGL has been contracted to manufacture new locomotives for Qube Logistics, over a period of 18 months. The new locomotives will be built in Newcastle, in New South Wales.

UGL managing director Jason Spears said, “UGL has a reputation for the manufacture, operations and maintenance of heavy and light rail across Australia. These contracts extend our light rail capability alongside our Adelaide heavy rail presence and commence our relationship with Qube Logistics.”
