CIB and others collaborate for potential wind farm in Nova Scotia

by Kali Persall

Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Port Hawkesbury Paper and IFE Project Management Canada (IFE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) formalizing their collaboration on the potential Pirate Harbour Wind Farm in Nova Scotia.

Port Hawkesbury Paper and IFE, which would be tasked with leading the design, construction and financing of the 112-megawatt wind farm, are evaluating the potential for its development in the region. The wind farm would comprise 28 four-megawatt wind turbines, 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) of overland transmission lines and 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) of subsea cables.

The wind farm would supply green energy to Port Hawkesbury Paper, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and its greenhouse gas emissions. The project is expected to add clean, renewable energy generation to the province and will further increase the sustainability of the mill’s paper production operations.

This is CIB’s eighth project ever, as well as the bank’s first
