Chinese EV battery-maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. is entering the residential storage market in Japan through a new partnership with Next Energy, a Japanese solar power company.
CATL will supply the batteries, and Next Energy will assemble energy storage systems to sell on the Japanese residential and commercial markets, according to media sources.
Next Energy will primarily sell under a third-party ownership model, with some plans to sell directly to households.
The joint-production is expected to commence in 2020.
