Ontario Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (OMERS), a Canadian pension fund, is seeking acquisitions in India’s clean energy sector, according to Mint.
India has an installed renewable energy capacity of 80 gigawatts and aims to achieve 175 gigawatts by 2022, and 500 gigawatts by 2030. It is one of the top renewable producers in the world.
OMERS portfolio includes large-scale infrastructure assets in sectors such as energy, transportation and government-regulated services. Notably, it has investd in infrastructure projects such as the London City airport, nuclear power station Bruce Power in Ontario, and the port of Melbourne in Australia.
The pension system has $100 billion in net assets under management.
