Canadian alternative investment sector calls for expanded access to registered plans for retail investors

The Canadian alternative investment sector is advocating for the federal government to provide retail investors with increased access to alternative products within registered plans, reported Investment Executive. 

Industry associations have put forth these recommendations to the Department of Finance during its consultation aimed at simplifying and modernizing the definition of “qualified investments” for various registered accounts, including RRSPs, RRIFs, TFSAs, RESPs, RDSPs, first home savings accounts and deferred profit-sharing plans.
