by Kali Persall

Canada has plans to invest C$10.2 million ($7.8 million) in 25 infrastructure projects in Eastern Newfoundland and the surrounding area, the government announced on Friday.

The projects will commence through the government’s Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, and include upgrades to municipal water, wastewater, and storm sewer systems, as well as improvements regional roads.

The larger infrastructure plan calls for the government to invest C$180 billion ($137 billion) in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities over a 12-year period.

“Ensuring that communities across Canada have modern infrastructure is essential to building a healthy, sustainable future,” said Bernadette Jordan, minister of rural and economic development. “These investments are critical to ensuring communities in Newfoundland and Labrador can reach their full potential.”
