California OKs grant funds for railroad grade separations

by Jody Barhanovich

The California Transportation Commission has approved $78 million in grant funding for two eastern Los Angeles County projects to separate the roadway from hazardous crossings. The crossings are along the Alameda Corridor-East freight-rail corridor.

A total of $49 million of the grant program will go toward construction of a $128.61 million roadway underpass on Montebello Boulevard in Montebello, Calif., and $29 million will go toward an $86.2 million roadway overpass on Turnbull Canyon Road in Industry and unincorporated Los Angeles County.

Both projects are beginning their final design phase, and construction is anticipated to begin before summer 2020.
