Bureau of Ocean Energy Management considers offshore wind projects on East Coast

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is planning to conduct an environmental review of a potential offshore wind energy project in New York and New Jersey.

This is in line with the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to developing 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030.

This week, BOEM published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on a Construction and Operations Plan (COP), submitted by Empire Offshore Wind. The COP proposed the construction and operation of two wind energy facilities offshore New York state, with two export cable routes and up to three export cable landfalls in New York.
