Brazil could be the recipient of roughly R$50 billion ($12.5 billion) in national and foreign infrastructure investments in 2020, Tarcísio Freitashe, the country’s Minister of Infrastructure revealed on Sept. 25.
According to The Rio Times, Freitashe made the announcement at the inauguration of the new runway of the Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro, following a series of meetings he held in the United States.
The minister said he spoke with 68 financial institutions, including funds, investment banks, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds throughout 21 meetings.
Brazil has made significant infrastructure advancements, as of late. In August, the government’s transportation agency and a consortium led by the largest railroad operator in Brazil signed the concession contract for a R$2.72 billion ($692 million) railway project.
Prior to that, the Transport Agency of the State of Sao Paulo launched tenders for the concession of a 1,273-kilometer (791-mile) highway modernization project, a R$14 billion ($3.7 billion) undertaking that would connect the city of Piracicaba and the municipality of Panorama.
