Blackstone appoints Raymond Chan as managing director of investment team

by Kali Persall

Blackstone has hired Raymond Chan as managing director of its portfolio management and investment research team in Blackstone Alternative Asset Management (BAAM).

He will manage the portfolio for BAAM’s registered funds platform, which collectively manages more than $10.5 billion. The largest funds in the complex are the Blackstone Alternative Multi-Strategy Fund, a daily liquid mutual fund, and the Blackstone Diversified Multi-Strategy Fund, a daily liquid UCITS fund.

Prior to Blackstone, Chan served for 15 years as a managing director at Goldman Sachs, working in the firm’s multi-asset investing group, Global Portfolio Solutions.

He holds an MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania and an AB from Harvard University, where he graduated with honors.

“To be successful, our research has shown that you need to have a view on all markets at all times,” said Gideon Berger, senior managing director and co-CIO of BAAM. “Ray is a critical hire as we continue to extract the very best alternative exposures for our registered funds. His deep experience in multi-asset investing offers a fresh perspective that complements the work of our strategy-focused research teams.”
