Biden calls for a solar-energy dominated U.S. by 2050

President Biden has proposed a plan to produce nearly half of the United States’ electricity from solar power by 2050, a monumental undertaking that would require collaboration on tough decarbonization policies, alongside mass deployment of renewable energy sources.

By 2035, solar energy has the potential to power 40 percent of the nation’s electricity and drive deep decarbonization of the grid without raising electricity prices, according to the Solar Futures Study released by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

The study’s findings call for massive and equitable deployment of clean energy sources, underscoring the Biden administration’s efforts to tackle the climate crisis and rapidly increase access to renewable power throughout the country.
