Belgium’s Flemish Government has greenlighted a highway renovation project to reduce traffic congestion at the interchange at R0 ring around Brussels and A201 highway, according to InfraPPP.
Government transport company De Lijn is now seeking a consortium of contractors who will finance, execute and maintain the works of the new interchange under a public-private partnership model. The partner will also provide maintenance for a period of 30 years.
According to InfraPPP, the current turbine type interchange is too large in relation to the traffic produced and will be replaced by a Single Point Interchange (SPI). SPI will organize an entrance and exit complex, where all traffic converges in the middle and is settled at only one traffic-controlled intersection. It will allow the necessary infrastructure to be constructed in a more compact manner, optimizing space and freeing additional space for bicycle highways and the green-blue network.
