by Kali Persall

Aviva Investors has appointed Amanda Blanc as an independent non-executive director, effective Jan. 2, according to Reuters.

Blanc, the former CEO of AXA U.K. and Ireland, was the first woman to be appointed as chair of the Association of British Insurers in 2018. She joins Aviva from Zurich Insurance Pl., where she served as CEO EMEA & global banking partnerships and group EXCOM member, according to her LinkedIn page.

She has also held senior management positions at Towergate Insurance Brokers, Groupama Insurance Co. and Commercial Union.

Blanc will succeed Claudia Arney as chair of the governance committee and become a member of the nomination and risk committees.

A manager for pension schemes and insurance companies, Aviva's infrastructure debt platform provides funding for transactions in renewable energy, social infrastructure, transport, utilities and energy transmission.
