ASR seeks to raise €800m for debut renewable-energy fund

by Kali Persall

a.s.r. real estate, one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands, has debuted its first sector fund for infrastructure. The ASR Dutch Green Energy Fund I has a current size of approximately €400 million ($437 million), and ASR aims to grow it to €800 million ($874 million).

The renewable-energy fund will invest mainly in solar and wind farms in the Netherlands, with the possibility to invest in battery-energy storage, enabling a.s.r. real estate to contribute to the energy transition in the Netherlands. The fund’s portfolio consists of four Dutch wind farms with a total of 48 wind turbines, and a solar farm with 60,000 solar panels. The vehicle provides 583 gigawatt hours of energy annually, which can provide power to more than 200,000 households.

ASR Levensverzekering N.V., a life insurance company and one of the main operating entities of ASR Group, is acting as an anchor investor.
