Deal activity in Asia Pacific remained subdued in 2023 and was down 20.4 percent for the year, according to GlobalData, a data and analytics company.
A total of 14,193 M&A, private equity and venture capital deals were announced in the region during 2023, compared with the 17,824 deals announced during the previous year. All the deal types under the coverage recorded declines in volume during the year. The number of M&A deals declined by 13.5 percent, whereas the volume of private equity and venture capital deals were down by 24.7 percent and 26.3 percent, respectively.
In addition, deal activity remained subdued across most of the key markets in the Asia Pacific region during the year. Markets such as China, India, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and New Zealand all witnessed declines in deal volume in 2023 compared with 2022.
