Mario Meoni, Argentina’s minister of transport, said this week the country is planning to invest $1.4 billion in airport infrastructure over the next few years.
“We have developed an ambitious project for 43 airports,” said Meoni, according to CAPA Center for Aviation. The project includes 223 interventions over the next three-and-a-half years.
With a GDP of $450 billion, Argentina is one of the largest economies in Latin America. The country has a strong infrastructure system compared with other Latin American nations.
There are 1,359 airports in Argentina, although only 142 have paved runways, according to Nations Encyclopedia. The government is involved in a program to privatize airports. At least 33 major airports have been turned over to the private sector to operate.
