Aquila Capital acquires wind project in Sweden

by Jody Barhanovich

Aquila Capital has acquired the Högkölen wind project in Sweden, expanding its renewable energy portfolio in Scandinavia.

The Högkölen wind park will have 18 Vestas V 126 3.6-megawatt turbines that will produce about 244gigawatts of electricity on a yearly basis. The wind park will have an installed capacity of 64.8 megawatts once it is connected to the grid in 2018. The Högkölen project was developed by OX2, one of the largest wind developers in Sweden.

In the past two years, Aquila Capital has acquired wind energy projects and parks in Scandinavia with a capacity of approximately 400 megawatts. Aquila previously acquired a wind power project in Lehtirova, Sweden. The wind park will have 41 Vestas V 126 3.6-megawatt turbines with an installed capacity of almost 148 megawatts and an annual production of approximately 490 gigawatts once they are connected to the grid in 2018.

In addition to its investments in Scandinavia, in September Aquila acquired two German wind parks, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg. The wind parks have an installed capacity of 34 megawatts and 46 megawatts respectively, making them comparatively large assets within the German wind market.
