Apex and Facebook sign PPA for portion of 80MW solar project in Virginia

Apex Clean Energy has struck a power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Facebook for a 61.6-megawatt portion of Apex’s 80-megawatt Altavista Solar project.

Upon becoming operational in 2020, Altavista Solar will become the first solar energy project in Campbell County, Va.

The deal will mark Apex’s second major transaction with Facebook this year, following a PPA signed in August with the tech giant for the 200-megawatt Aviator Wind East project in Coke County, Texas. It will be the largest single-phase, single-site wind project in the United States once it begins operations in 2020.

The Altavista Solar project will be Apex’s largest solar project to date and the company’s first renewable energy facility on the East Coast. According to Apex, the project will support Facebook’s operations in Virginia and help the company reach its goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75 percent and supporting 100 percent of its operations with renewable energy in 20
