The United States is by far the largest hedge fund market in the world, accounting for 67 percent of the world’s hedge funds, according to SigTech, the quant technologies provider.
Out of the top 10 cities in the world for having the largest number of hedge funds, six are based in the United States. New York has more hedge funds than any other city in the world (6,801, or 25 percent of the global total), Boston has the fourth-highest number, followed by Chicago; Greenwich, Conn.; San Francisco; and Los Angeles.
Since 2019, 5,500 new hedge funds have launched and 3,859 (70 percent) of these are based in the United States.
