Amazon announces Irish data center expansion

by Kali Persall

Amazon has revealed plans to build a 115-megawatt wind farm in Ardderroo, Galway, to power the company’s web services data centers in Ireland, according to various news reports.

Added to its two existing wind projects in the country, which are scheduled to come online this month and in early 2022, Amazon is expecting to add 229 megawatts of renewable energy to the Irish grid each year. This is in line with the company’s plans to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

The latest wind project will be brought online in 2022.

The Irish build-out follows Amazon’s March announcements of four renewable energy projects in Australia, Spain, Sweden and the United States.
