Illiquid and semi-liquid alternative investment offerings reached $45.5 billion in annual fundraising through the end of March, according to Robert A. Stanger and Co.
Nontraded business development companies (BDC) led in fundraising, with $12 billion in capital raised, marking a 47.3 percent increase, year-over-year. Private placements, such as infrastructure and private equity offerings, followed with $10.6 billion and then interval funds, with $9.5 billion. Non-traded real estate investment trust fundraising saw a drop of 13.9 percent year-over-year.
Investor preference in private placements, infrastructure, private equity and high yielding credit focused strategies is accountable for the shift among an increase in non-traded BDC fundraising and a decrease in non-traded real estate investment trust fundraising.
