Alaska Retirement names new CIO

by Kali Persall

The Alaska Retirement Management Board has promoted Zachary Hanna to CIO.

Hanna has worked for the State of Alaska for more than 16 years, most recently serving as deputy CIO and manager of alternative investments, according to his LinkedIn page. As deputy CIO, he provided asset allocation, risk management and analytical leadership to an organization with $40 billion in investments under management.

He directly led the team investing $9 billion in real estate alternative investments, infrastructure, private equity, absolute return and private credit.

His new appointment took effect this month.

Hanna earned his bachelor’s degree in econometrics and quantitative economics from the University of California, San Diego.

As of March 31, real assets — which includes real estate, farmland, timberland, infrastructure and energy — made up 14.6 percent of Alaska’s portfolio.
