Airtel is planning to invest INR 50 billion ($659.5 million) to scale up its data center business, Nxtra by Airtel.
The investment will triple Nxtra by Airtel’s data center capacity to more than 400 megawatts by 2025 and cement it as India’s largest network of hyperscale and edge data centers. The buildout will include new data center parks in key metro cities.
Airtel said the Indian data center industry is poised for growth and is expected to more than double its installed capacity from 450 megawatts to 1,074 megawatts by 2023.
Nxtra by Airtel currently operates 10 large and 120 edge data centers, located strategically across India, and manages critical submarine landing stations. Coupled with Airtel’s global network, it offers secure and scalable integrated solutions to global hyperscalers, large Indian enterprises, startups, SMEs and governments.
