AIIB prices bond for sustainable infrastructure

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has raised £800 million ($1 billion) to invest in sustainable infrastructure through a recent bond pricing.

The five-year sustainable development bond will finance new technologies and new ways in which to address climate change, among other objectives. This marks AIIB’s fourth syndicated capital markets benchmark transaction in 2020.

“This marks another step toward building a diversified funding program,” said Domenico Nardelli, treasurer of AIIB. “With a borrowing program of $9 billion for this year and an increasing borrowing requirement going forward, it is essential to establish ourselves in as many markets as possible such that we have a diversified source of funds for the years to come.”

The order book closed with more than £2 billion ($2.6 billion) from 74 orders with support from bank treasuries, official institutions and wider real money investors, reported AIIB.
