African Development Bank urges Central African countries to address infrastructure investment

In a new report titled “African Economic Outlook for Central Africa 2020,” the African Development Bank calls on Central African states to take steps to promote economic diversification, invest in infrastructure, and improve the mobilization of domestic resources.

The report also urges on the countries of Central Africa to curb the effects of climate change and develop human capital.

Central African countries are facing three shocks — health, linked to the coronavirus; security, linked to piracy in the Basin of Congo; and economic, linked to the decline in income from raw materials — according to Daniel Ona Ondo, president of the commission of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa, or CEMAC.

“It is an exceptional situation, the crisis affects all countries and it is not good to exclude middle-income countries,” said Ondo. “All countries must be taken into account to enable them to organize economic recovery.”
