Africa Data Centres, a business of Cassava Technologies, has secured a plot of land adjacent to its existing data center in Nairobi, Kenya, with plans to expand the facility with up to an extra 15 megawatts of IT load.
Beginning with 5 megawatts megawatts of IT load, the build will be completed in the first half of 2024, bringing five times more than the current capacity.
This is in line with Africa Data Centres’ expansion plans, announced in 2021, that call for the investment of $500 million into building hyperscale data centers across Africa.
“Colocation has become the foundation of African digital transformation and will be for the foreseeable future,” said Hardy Pemhiwa, group president and CEO of Cassava Technologies. “Our investment into expanding our data center operations in Kenya is in line with the increasing demand that we are experiencing due to the significant increase in the adoption of digital services in the East African region.”
