Infrastructure South Africa (ISA), part of the National Treasury, Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, has signed an agreement with the Development Bank of Southern Africa in an effort to bring together key stakeholders of the Infrastructure Fund Initiative to create a financing facility for blended infrastructure projects.
“Given the limited government finances that have been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, the strategic importance of infrastructure as a lever and stimulus for economic recovery and growth has come to the fore,” said the entities in a joint statement.
Launched in September 2018 by South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa, the infrastructure fund is intended as government funding and ancillary support for co-financing of blended finance programs and projects using both public and private resources.
