A hydrogen plane startup in California, ZeroAvia, has secured $37.7 million in a funding round led by Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Ecosystem Integrity Fund to develop zero-emission commercial aircraft.
Amazon Climate Pledge Fund, Horizons Ventures, Shell Ventures and Summa Equity have also joined as follow-on investors. In addition, the company established a partnership with British Airways and received approval for new U.K. government funding through the ATI Program to deliver an additional $16.3 million of non-dilutive funding for a breakthrough 19-seat hydrogen-electric powered aircraft that will be market-ready by 2023. The newest commitment brings the total new funding to $37.7 million and the total funding since inception to $49.7 million.
