$26.2b raised for investment into Asia Pacific nonlisted real estate in 2020

Investment managers raised a minimum of $26.2 billion for real estate investment into Asia Pacific nonlisted real estate in 2020, despite the outbreak of COVID-19, according to ANREV/INREV/NCREIF’s Annual Capital Raising Survey 2021. Globally, managers raised US$150.7 billion for investment into nonlisted real estate across the world.

Although the amount for Asia Pacific marks a decrease from the record $32.6 billion raised in 2019, the amount raised in 2020, in fact, reflects the levels raised in the immediate years before the pandemic, when $26.2 billion was raised in 2017 and $26.9 billion, in 2018. This is a positive indicator that real estate has retained its attractiveness despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Globally, nearly a third of managers said they had not raised any new capital in 2020, which is not surprising considering the record level of capital raised in 2019.
