250MW Italian wind project attracts prospective concessionaire

by Kali Persall

Italian wind project company 7 Seas Med has expressed interest in a concession to install a 250-megawatt floating offshore wind project in the Strait of Sicily, according to InfraPPP.

The proposed project, which is valued at €741 million ($837 million), will be located about 35 kilometers (21 miles) from the northwest coast of Sicily. It will feature 25 10-megawatt turbines and an offshore transformer substation to induct energy in the national grid.

The project is being developed in partnership with the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and is in the preliminary stage of securing the concession grant. 7 Seas Med filed a request with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the concession, which would carry a contract term of 30 years.

Once the concession is granted, construction could start as early as 2023.
