16 groups bid for section 3 of Mexican rail project

Mexico’s Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (Fonatur) is considering 16 bids for the third section of the Maya train PPP project in Mexico, according to InfraPPP.

The 172-kilometer (106-mile) stretch of railway connects the Calkiní, Campeche, Izamal, and Yucatán regions.

Last month, Fonatur awarded the contract for section two of the project to the Operadora CICSA SA de CV consortium, which is among the list of applicants bidding for section three.

The Operadora CICSA SA de CV consortium bested 14 other applicants who submitted bids for the project, according to InfraPPP. The consortium's financial offer for the project was valued at Mex$18.5 billion ($769 million).

Section two consists of a 235-kilometer (146-mile) stretch that runs from Escárcega to Calkiní in the Mexican state of Campeche. Work is scheduled to start on May 12.
