Arkansas Teacher Retirement System backs Torchlight, CBRE real estate funds

Arkansas Teacher Retirement System (ARTRS) has committed a total of $100 million to two real estate funds, according to recently released board meeting minutes.

Arkansas invested up to $50 million in Torchlight Debt Fund VII, an opportunistic real estate fund managed by Torchlight Investors. The closed-end, value-add fund will seek to acquire real estate debt investments throughout the United States. According to ARTRS, Torchlight Debt Fund VII is focused on high-yield debt investments in both the public and private markets.

An equity fundraising target has not been disclosed for the fund, which began marketing in April.

Other known investors in the fund include the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawaii (HERS), which committed $50 million in late May.
