Two U.K. student housing portfolios sell for $2b

In separate deals, two student housing portfolios in the United Kingdom have sold for nearly $2.1 billion.

Nido London has exchanged contracts to sell its high-end student accommodation portfolio to Greystar Real Estate Partners for approximately £600 million ($896 million). The portfolio comprises three premium student housing assets across London in King’s Cross, Notting Hill and Spitalfields totaling 2,375 beds.

Investors in Nido London include the Coral Student Portfolio advised by CBRE Global Investors, a number of overseas private stakeholders advised by Curzon Land and Round Hill Capital. Round Hill Capital acquired the Nido student housing portfolio from The Blackstone Group for £415 million ($619.94 million) in May 2012.

In the second portfolio acquisition, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board acquired the U.K. student housing portfolio operating under the Liberty Living brand from the Brandeaux Student Accommodation Fun
