REITs have steady, yet positive, November

After bouncing back from a rough September in a big way, REITs continued their positive growth in November, though at a more moderate pace, with the FTSE NAREIT All Equity REITs index returning 2.34 percent — well short of the 8.99 percent return in October but still on the right side of zero. The return, led by strong months from healthcare and infrastructure REITs, brings the index’s year-to-date return to an impressive 26.44 percent with one more month to go before year’s end.

Infrastructure REITs were the top performer by a wide margin, returning 7.10 percent for the month, bringing the year-to-date return for the sector to 26.47 percent. Despite the success, infrastructure REITs make up less than 2 percent of the index, preventing them from having much effect on the index-wide return.
