Four Danish pension funds form social infrastructure venture

by Andrea Waitrovich

Four Danish pension funds have formed an investment club to invest €69.7 million ($78.11 million) in a hospital building project in Slagelse, Denmark.

The contract has been awarded by the Region of Zealand. The four pension funds — PKA, Sampension, PensionDanmark and Industriens Pension — will own the building as financial partners, and the operating company will be owned equally by MT Højgaard and DEAS.

The new three-story building will have 172,222 square feet of space and comprise a maternity unit on the ground floor, and beds on the two upper floors. It will provide 140 extra hospital beds and is expected to be ready for use in January 2018. The partnership has applied for permission to add a fourth floor to the building but is still awaiting approval for this.
