Chinese investor to build the tallest residential building in Western Europe

Shanghai-based Greenland Group has started work on Western Europe’s tallest residential building, Spire London.

The 771-foot tall, 67-story apartment tower is located in the Docklands neighborhood in the east of the city. It will be completed in 2020. It will feature retailing, residents’ gardens and amenities including a 35th-floor Spa and Club Bar.

The £800 million ($1.07 billion) skyscraper will have 861 apartments. The affordable housing units will make up 96 of the 861 units.

Greenland Group, which is developing four of the 10 tallest buildings in the world, said Spire London would reach half its height by summer 2018.

The developer also is currently developing Wuhan Greenland Center and Dalian Greenland Center in China, which will rank among the tallest skyscrapers in the world once completed.
